lake atitlan, guatemala

february 17-22, 2025

for the:

truth seeker

Every afternoon, on Lake Atitlan, there occurs a phenomenon called “Xocomil” - a wind so strong that it’s believed to carry away the sins of the lake dwellers. It creates visible waves across the crater and every morning, the lake becomes still once again, symbolizing a rebirth. This retreat is designed to emulate Xocomil - healing old wounds and opening our hearts to new beginnings. If you’re looking for a sense of renewal, this is the place to begin. So much truth + wisdom lives within this beautiful Mayan community and we’ll be fully immersed.

retreat intention: renewal

primary chakras: root

klesha: ignorance

five (5) nights accommodation

We’re going back to our favorite jungle villa! Tucked away in the hillside of Tzununa (which means “hummingbird of the water” in Mayan), this remote property is perfect for the deepest exploration of the soul. We’ll have all the quiet we need for a weeklong escape, but with easy access to more bustling lakeside towns.

Four (4) hours of yoga/day

This week is a significant retreat into the soul, finding grounding and strength… creating a strong foundation for the rest of the year. We’ll dedicate hours upon hours to the practice. You can expect a mix of restorative, yin, and hatha-style flows in our rooftop shala that overlooks the crater. We’ll also expand our practice with four (4) specialty workshops:

  • Root Chakra Archetypes: An Asana Workshop

  • 5 Rhythms: Liberation Through Intuitive Movement

  • The Yoga Sutras: Understanding the Heart of Yoga

  • The Toric Field: Keeping Your Batteries Charged

This retreat is a full, yoga-intensive.

three (3) farm-to-table meals/day

A true highlight of this trip is joy within our kitchen each day. Beautiful, local women come early in the morning to make each meal from complete scratch, prepared with SO much love. I promise you’ve never tasted anything like this before - true farm-to-table meals that will change the way you think about food.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding

In the Popol Vuh, a sacred Mayan text, Lake Atitlan is said to be the center of the cosmos. And its spiritual energy is certainly undeniable. With an early morning paddle into the heart of the lake, we’ll have a chance to experience its magnetic pull.

Silent Day (Vippasana)

We’re creating a vacuum for the soul to expand. You’ll be guided through a complete silent day to reset the nervous system and reconnect with your intuition. Vippasana brings forth a sense of clarity and self-confidence. Our day of mindfulness includes:

  • 108 Sun Salutations

  • Two (2) 60-minute meditations

  • Mindfulness nature walk

  • Time for rest and reflection

Vippasana is a challenging experience but a rare opportunity designed for long-term transformation.

textile workshop at a women’s collective

We’ll have the privilege of visiting a women’s collective in the local village of San Juan La Laguna. These Mayan women are experts weavers, designing colorful textiles to provide for their families. It’s an intimate and hands-on experience, just for us - connection is everything.

Two (2) Temazcal Sauna sessions

This sauna is integral for our weeklong reset, releasing any toxins from the physical body and stagnant emotional energy coming to the surface. There’s even a tropical plunge pool on-site to cool down and bask in the afternoon sun.

cacao ceremony

Honoring the Mayan tradition of a sacred cacao ceremony, we will recreate this ancient ritual. Sourced locally, this rich Guatemalan cacao opens the heart to release old heartaches and attract more abundant love.

Common Questions

Q: What makes this retreat a “yoga intensive”?
A: This retreat features four (4) hours of yoga per day and explores all 8 Limbs of Yoga. Not only is it going to be A LOT of exercise but it’s going to encourage significant self-reflection and shadow work. There may be moments during the retreat where you feel like the practice is going to break you. But it’s really just breaking you open. To physically sustain the weeklong journey, we’ll pace ourselves by incorporating restorative formats, meditation, and philosophy.

Q: Is Guatemala safe?
A: Yes! As a solo female traveler, this is something I take very seriously, too. Like any developing country, there are safer areas than others. But Lake Atitlan is incredibly safe, especially because it is now a yoga retreat hub, with travelers from all over the world. Like any destination, it’s important to be aware of your surroundings, dress humbly, pack lightly, and keep your valuables in a safe place. We will stick together as a group and be home before dark each night.

Q: I’m nervous about getting to the destination alone. Can you help me?
A: Of course! Before the retreat, I will send all of my suggestions for transportation services, including private shuttle options. I will also share with the group when everyone else lands, in case you want to coordinate travel together. Plus, I’ll be on standby at the destination, awaiting your arrival!

Q: Should I bring cash?
A: Guatemala is a mostly cash destination. Bring a little cash for your shuttle to/from the property and maybe some Quetzales for shopping and massages, etc. $300 should cover everything you need.

Q: What time is check-in?
A: You can arrive any time on February 17th.
